Meal Plan Policy
1. Policy
All first-year students who live in University housing (excluding Calhoun Courts, Lightsey Bridge I and II, and Thornhill Village) are required to subscribe to one of the four resident meal plans for their first two semesters, Fall and Spring. These plans are the Plus Unlimited Access, Unlimited Access, Plus Any 15 or the Any 15. All other students have the option of selecting on a semester basis or pay for individual meals.
The Plus 175, Plus Commuter 75 and TigerStripe account do not satisfy the first-year student requirement.
For the fall semester, first-year students who are required, but do not subscribe to a meal plan by the Friday before classes will be assigned the Any 15 Plan and held responsible for associated charges.
For the spring semester, first-year students who are required to subscribe to a resident meal plan will be automatically assigned their fall meal plan choice, and the associated charges will be added to the tuition bill. If you choose to change your meal plan, we encourage you to change it prior to paying the tuition bill to ensure that you are not charged a change fee.
Through the Sunday before classes begin each semester, you may select a meal plan via the University's web site at tigerweb.clemson.edu (for first-year students, you myst select by the Friday before classes). You may use a MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit card at the time of your selection, but be advised that you will be assessed a 2.5% non-refundable convenience fee. E-checks are also accepted for payment for $1.75/transaction. For instructions on purchasing a meal plan after that period, please refer to the Tiger I web site at tiger1.clemson.edu and click on "Customer Service."
First-year and upperclassmen students may change the meal plan portion of a meal plan, not paw points, on the following dates:
- Monday and Tuesday prior to classes at Brackett Hall Walkthrough registration
- 9/5/11, 9/7/11, 9/12/11, 9/14/11 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
- 1/23/12, 1/25/12, 1/30/12, 2/1/12 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
Upperclassmen and first-year students not required to subscribe to a meal plan may cancel their plans on the above dates.
All adjustments will be prorated. Meals not eaten during a week are not refunded or held in reserve for use at another time.
With Unlimited Access, students may enter Harcombe, Schilletter and Clemson House Dining Halls as many times per day as they desire. With all other plans, only one meal may be eaten during a set meal period.
2. Acceptance
The student accepts the terms and conditions of their selected plan upon initial tuition payment and processing of charges.
3. Meal Plans
A. Regular Plans
There are two regular meal plans that are available to everyone. A regular meal plan can be identified as a meal plan without Paw Points. They include the Unlimited Access Plan and the Any 15. The Unlimited Access plan gives students the ability to enter the meal plan dining halls, Harcombe, Schilletter and the Clemson House, as often during the day as they desire. The Any 15 Plan allows students to choose any 15 of the 21 meals served during the week.
B. Plus Meal Plans
There are two Plus meal plans available to everyone. They include the Plus Unlimited Access and the Plus Any 15 Plan. They allow students to choose unlimited entrances or any 15 of 21 meals respectively, served during the week, plus "Paw Points " which can be used in lieu of cash at any of the other Dining Services operations.
C. Meals Per Semester Plans
The Plus 175 with 20 guest meals and the Plus Commuter 75 are only available to faculty, staff, commuters, all upperclassmen, and first-year students (living in the Calhoun courts, Thornhill, Village New East Campus Apartments and Lightsey Bridge Apartments). First-year students living in any other University housing locations who sign up for one of these plans will be assigned to an ANY 15 and will be responsible for the associated charges.
4. Tiger 1 Cards
Cards are the property of Clemson University. Students must present their card to gain entry into dining halls or to use Paw Points or the Tiger Stripe Account.
Neither Cards nor Meal Plan Privileges are Transferable. Lost cards must be reported to the Tiger 1 card office, located in Fike Recreation Center, immediately. The University is not responsible for any loss or expense resulting from the loss, theft, or misuse of the Tiger 1 Card.
5. Meal Plan Termination by the University
Upon reasonable notice and for good cause, the University reserves the right to terminate a meal plan for failure of the student to abide by its policies. Examples of good cause are a change in student status (including academic or disciplinary suspension), and failure to comply with the policies and regulations contained in the Dining Services brochure or official bulletins distributed by the University which are hereby made a part of this agreement. The student will be responsible for all fees related to termination of the meal plan. The fee to change a meal plan is $35, the fee to drop a meal plan is $35.
6. Meal Plan Termination by the Student
First year students living in University housing (excluding Calhoun Courts, Lightsey Bridge Apartments, New East Campus Apartments and Thornhill Village) during their first two semesters, Fall and Spring, may only terminate their meal plan for one of the following reasons:
a. Withdrawal from Clemson University.
b. Change in housing assignment to an apartment mentioned above.
c. Medical condition with dietary requirements that cannot be met by Dining Services. Documentation from a medical doctor must be provided along with specific dietary requirements. This documentation will be reviewed by Dining Services Administration.
d. Other circumstances determined by the University to be beyond the student's control.
The student must provide the necessary documentation for any of the above reasons before a decision on the cancellation of a meal plan will be considered. Upperclassmen may terminate a meal plan for any reason on the specific dates mentioned under "policy."
Failure to participate in a meal plan does not automatically release a student from the requirement to participate in a meal plan. The student will be responsible for all fees related to termination of the meal plan except withdrawal from the University. Students who withdraw from the University during the last six weeks of the semester are entitled to a refund on the remaining portion of their meal plan with no service charges being assessed.
Upperclassmen students may drop the meal plan portion of a meal plan, not paw points, on the following dates:
- Monday and Tuesday prior to classes at Brackett Hall Walkthrough registration
- 8/30/10, 9/1/10, 9/6/10 and 9/8/10 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
- 1/24/11, 1/26/11, 1/31/11 and 2/2/11 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
7. Tiger Stripe Account
The Tiger Stripe account does not satisfy the freshman meal plan requirement. For more information, please visit the Tiger 1 office located in Fike Recreation Center or online at http://tiger1.clemson.edu.
8. Paw Point Plan
Students may drop the regular meal plan portion of a Plus plan with the usual constraints (charge for meals passed that the plan was in effect and associated fees). However, the Paw Points value can not be refunded and will remain in effect until all of the funds are expended or until after supper on graduation day of each semester in which the Plus plan was purchased, at which time the account will be zeroed.
Changes from one Plus plan to another can not be executed. However, you may drop the regular meal plan portion of one plan and purchase another. Your Paw Point balance can not be refunded. Changes can be made from a Plus plan to a regular plan, but the Paw Point value is not affected and will remain in effect until all points are expended.
Changes from a regular plan to a Plus plan can be made only on the following dates:
- Monday and Tuesday prior to classes at Brackett Hall Walkthrough registration
- 8/30/10, 9/1/10, 9/6/10 and 9/8/10 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
- 1/24/11, 1/26/11, 1/31/11 and 2/2/11 at the Tiger I card office in Fike Recreation Center
Purchase of a Plus plan after the first week of a semester will be at the usual pro-rated price for the regular meal plan portion of the plan. The Paw Points will remain at the same price and value as if purchased at the beginning of the semester.
Paw Points do carry forward from one semester to the next semester or until depleted.
