Sustainability on Campus

Sustainability News! Compostable & recyclable sushi containers are now being used at Washoku. Remember, our GreenThread To Go Container Program is always an option. You can start participating by visiting our POD Market in lower USDAN to purchase your container today.

Cool Fun Sustainability Facts! See what we are doing to lower our carbon footprint:

-Our milk is produced from a local farm in Derry, NH.
-Trayless dining is available at all dining locations in USDAN and in the Non-Kosher Dining in Sherman.
-We offer biodegradable “to go” containers.
-We use recycled paper napkins and paper towels
-We offer a $0.99 coffee refill program. Just bring your travel mug to any on-campus dining location and refuel & refill for $0.99
-Bottled water is not sold in the Café or Boulevard. Instead, we have set up hydration stations for you to quench your thirst!
-Our cleaning products are all green!

At Dining Services, we respect our responsibility to the planet, the environment and the community in which we work.  We nurture our world with a commitment to sound environmental and business practices.  We recognize our mutual global interdependence and develop programs with a holistic focus to preserve vibrant communities, support ecological systems, and embrace a sustainable future.

In October 2006, Dining Services introduced locally grown produce in all dining locations. All locally grown produce is labeled and the variety changes daily based on the harvest and season.

Dining Services has partnered with Laura Goldin's Greening Class. We tour the class around Usdan kitchens and present our green inititives to them. In return we have gotten great ideas and suggestions that have helped improve our program - such as moving the plasticware to encourage reusable silverware use. Thank you for the opportunity to collaborate!

Brandeis University will join over 630 college in the annual Recyclemania competition. This year our focus is on waste minimization. To find out more about the competition, click here.
