Meal Membership - Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Meal Plan work?
Meal plans are geared specifically to give you better dining value for your dollars when you use a meal card instead of paying cash to eat. Your meal plan is accessed through your student ID Card. A magnetic strip is placed on the back of your card and works with our computer system to identify you as the meal plan member. Meal plans come with a set number of all-you-care-to eat meals. For retail flexibility, all meal plans come with a set amount of Bonus Dollars that can be used to purchase additional meals, snacks or groceries for your room. For more detailed information, see our Dining Services Policies.

Who should purchase a Meal Plan?
Every student may sign up for a meal plan.  Residents on campus, Longwood Landings, Lancer Park, and Longwood Village must sign up for a meal plan.  We recommend commuters signup early to receive the full benefits of a meal plan and may use the designated form at www.Longwood.CampusDish.com

Can I carry meals over to the next week?
It depends on your plan.  With an unlimited plan, you are allowed unlimited access to the Dining Hall.  If you have a Block Plan, you have 150 meals to use for the semester at anytime.  When the 150 meals have been used they do not re-set.  If you have a weekly plan, the meals must be used in the week they are assigned and cannot be carried over to the next week.  With the weekly plans you are limited to one meal swipe per meal period.  The meal periods during the week are Breakfast, Lunch, Lite Lunch, and Dinner.  On the weekends, there are two meal periods, Brunch and Dinner.  There are no meal plans that allow you to carry over meals from one semester to the next.

Can I change my meal plan?
Through the add/drop period, students (both residential and commuter) will be able to make meal plan changes, either “up” or “down”, with no proration of charges. No changes in meal plans will be allowed after the add/drop period. Commuter students may add meal plans at any time in the semester, but must pay full cost for the plan. Unless an online adjustment is requested, the spring meal plan selection will remain the same as previously selected during the fall. All Longwood-managed residents must have a meal plan.
For Residential Students to change your meal plan.  For Commuter Students to add or change your meal plan.

Can I treat my friend by using two "meals" in a period?
No. Meal Plans are assigned to your Longwood ID and are for your use only. Meals are not transferrable. You may treat friends and guests using your Guest Meals or your Bonus Dollars which come with your meal plan.

Who can use my card?
For your protection, the only person authorized to use your card is you.

Do I need my ID to enter the Dining Hall?
Yes, you many not enter the dining hall or access Bonus Dollars without your LancerCard. If you lose your LancerCard, protect your account by immediately marking your card lost. You can do so online at www.longwood.edu/lancercard or contact the LancerCard Center during normal business hours. They are located in room G22A Lancaster Hall or you can email lancercard@longwood.edu. After hours, you can also contact Campus Police at 434-395-2091.

Do my Bonus Dollars carry over?
Bonus Dollars transfer from fall to spring semester if you have a meal plan both semesters.  Your Bonus Dollars must be used by the end of spring semester as they do not transfer to the next academic year.

May I add Bonus Dollars during the semester?
No. Bonus Dollars are part of your meal plan and additional Bonus Dollars cannot be added during the semester. You may opt to add Lancer Ca$h in addition to Bonus Dollars.  When you run out of Bonus Dollars, you can spend Lancer Ca$h in the dining locations on campus.  In addition, Lancer Ca$h will allow you to make purchases in other locations on and off campus.  For more information on Lancer Ca$h, visit www.longwood.edu/lancercard
